Poet AI - What did the artificial intelligence come up with about this island?
The largest and most visited island of Vientmu - Phu Quoc is located in the southern part of the country, close to the coast of Cambodia. About 21 smaller islets in the Gulf of Thailand belong to the island itself. The island is often promoted as a tropical paradise with clear seas. Unfortunately, in recent years it has rather become a tourist attraction of unprecedented proportions.
The advantage for visitors is that they do not need a visa for a stay of up to 30 days. But this only applies to Phu Quoc, it does not apply to the rest of Vietnam. So if you don't get your visa, look no further...
You will find plenty of beaches on the island. Among the most beautiful with the clearest water are Khem Beach in the south and Bai Dai in the north by Vienpearl Wonderworld. The beaches in the central part of the island unfortunately have quite dirty water due to the discharge of waste directly from the pipes on the beach. It is impossible to get to some beaches at all, because there are hotel complexes next to them, and if you don't want to go directly through them, you simply can't get to the beach. Unfortunately, there are probably no other access roads. The starfish beach in the northern part of the island can only be reached by boat.
Sights and attractions
Pepper Farms - Phu Qouc is famous for growing pepper and you can find several farms here. Here you can taste a fresh ball of pepper and buy fresh pepper, even flavored.
Farms for the famous fish sauce "nước mắm" - there are also several of them on the island. The fish sauce here is made from freshly caught anchovies, which are stored in barrels with salt. So they ferment for approximately 12 months and are then bottled. This is an interesting excursion and you don't have to worry about the unpleasant smell.
Pearl farm - you can just see how pearls are grown here or even buy something at a good price. Farms here focus on growing South Sea white and gold pearls.
Coconut Prison - War prison built by the French in 1950-51. During the Vietnam War, North Vietnamese soldiers (Viet Cong) were imprisoned here.
In addition to these local attractions, you can also visit some rather bizarre tourist attractions:
In the north you will find Vienperl's safari, water and theme park. Which is actually quite nice. But the craze that has grown up here is "Wonderworld" - an artificially exposed European-style city including Venice with an artificial canal and gondolas.
In the south, another artificially exposed town, SunWorld, awaits you in the Italian-French style. You will also find the longest cable car in the world, the newly opened Kiss Bridge, called the new symbol of Phu Quoc. So if you want to experience something other than Vietnam in Vietnam, welcome. However, it is not for those who want to get to know local Vietnam as such. I recommend them to look at the local market, which is just behind the hill. The contrast is striking.
Accommodations
Where to stay?
We recommend the center of the island, where you will find the most accommodation options of all categories. If you want to explore the island by yourself, you can go to a different side (north-south) every day. You will also find here the largest supermarket on King Kong Island, where you can buy absolutely everything, including fresh baked goods, at the cheapest price. Just expect that you will always stand in a crazy line at the checkout (not to mention the fights between the shelves ;). You will also find here the famous night food market in Doung Dong Town. Definitely worth a visit. However, keep in mind that the market is aimed at tourists, you won't see locals eating here. The night food market opens daily from the afternoon. You can also buy souvenirs here.
In the middle of the island, you can stay, for example, in the 3* bungalow resort Dugong Resort Phu Quoc, not far from the beach. You can choose between a garden view bungalow or a sea view bungalow. If you are traveling with your family, they also have larger family bungalows. It also offers full board.
You can book very cheap accommodation at Ha Tay Home & Beach Bar. All accommodation units have a kitchenette and a private bathroom. The house is located right next to the beach.
Probably the most famous luxury complex is the 5* hotel Vinpearl Wonderworld Phu Quoc in the northwestern part of the island.
For a complete offer of accommodation in Phu Quoc, we recommend using A-HOTEL.com. You can also use Booking.com offer for Phu Quoc.
Transport
The best way to get to the island itself is by plane. There are several daily flights from Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). In 2023, they newly introduced a direct flight to Phu Quoc from the Czech Republic. However, it mainly transports tourists from travel agencies. It is certainly cheaper to fly with a normal airline. The best way to get around the island itself is by scooter, taxi or the free bus line for tourists that goes to the most famous attractions. Traffic on the roads depends on when and where you go.
If you are traveling on your own and are a little worried, you will also find permanently resident Czechs on the island who will help you with trips etc.
Weather
The weather here is divided into dry and rainy seasons. The best time to go to Phu Quoc is during our winter from December to March. However, you certainly won't be fooled if you come in November or April. Although you won't have 100% azure, but on the other hand there won't be so many people :).
A poem about Phu Quoc invented by artificial intelligence
On the white beaches of Phu Quoc,
The waves whisper of secrets in your eyes.
Shadows dance in the breeze beneath the palm trees,
And the sun smiles at us with love.
In Duong Dong Temple, the air smells of incense,
The sound of bells welcomes us with a friendly greeting.
Between fishing villages and sea cliffs,
We get to know the beauty of the island, where time passes slowly.
Phu Quoc, the jewel of southern Vietnam,
With its sun-gilded sands, seductive and gentle.
It leaves in the heart of everyone who visits here
Memories of the peace and beauty that lies here.
Summary - Phu Quoc is certainly not a tropical paradise, but it is worth seeing and then evaluating anyway.
